Prof. Nyabundi is a full Professor of Horticulture since 1998. He previously served as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at University of Nairobi. He holds a BSc. Degree in Agriculture for University of Nairobi. MSc in Agronomy from University of Nairobi and PhD in Agricultural Ecology from University of California at Davis, USA. Prof. Nyabundi is a versatile Professor who has taught, researched and published widely in peer-reviewed journals worldwide.
Dr. Belio Kipsang, CBS (Born 1967) is the Principal Secretary, State Department for Basic Education, Ministry of Education. Prior to this, he was the Principal Secretary State Department for Regional and Northern Corridor Development in the Ministry of East African Community and Regional Development
Dr. Kipsang is a holder of Doctorate in Education (Educational Administration and Planning) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), a Master of Arts Degree in Economics and Bachelors (Honours) Degree in Education (Business and Economics), both from the University of Nairobi.
Dr. Kipsang has extensive experience in leadership, management, Education, coffee value chain financing, combating economic crime and micro-enterprise development spanning over a period of 24 years. He has served as the Managing Trustee/CEO of Coffee Development Fund, a State Corporation in the Ministry of Agriculture and Deputy CEO & Head of Operations at Higher Education Loans Board. Kipsang has undertaken various consultancies both locally and internationally on leadership and management of Education.
Dr. Kipsang is also a trained investigator and prosecutor from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Training school and also a trained Certified Fraud Examiner as well as an Associate Member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Dr. Kipsang has authored quality academic and research papers in the areas of Higher Education Financing and Planning.
Dr. Julius M. Muia CBS is the Principal Secretary at The National Treasury.
He served as the Principal Secretary at the State Department for Planning. Previously he was the Director General, Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat and as the Secretary, National Economic and Social Council, Office of the President.
Dr. Muia has over 25 years’ experience in leadership in the private sector in Kenya and UK in the hotel, manufacturing, and banking sector. His other engagements include an adjunct faculty at Strathmore Business School; adviser on strategy and trainer on leadership. He holds a PhD in Educational Leadership & Management and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Finance from the University of Nairobi, where he also graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.
His professional qualifications include Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K); Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K), Associate Kenya Institute of Bankers; Associate Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; and Certified Coach.
He is represented on the Council by Mr. Festus Kingori.
Dr. David Njengere (MBS), is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kenya National Examinations Council.
He holds a PhD in Education, Master of Philosophy in English and Bachelor of Education in English and Literature all from Moi University. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Curriculum Design and Development from the International Bureau of Education (UNESCO) and Open University of Tanzania, and a Certificate in Design and Development of Large Scale Assessments from Education and Testing Services, Princeton, New Jersey. He is a fullbright fellow under the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Programme, Vanderbilt University, USA.
Before being appointed as CEO, KNEC, Dr. Njengere was education advisor to the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, Prof George Magoha. He previously worked at KNEC and at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
He was instrumental in conceptualization and design of Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency Based Assessment (CBA) approaches for the ongoing education reforms in basic and teacher education.
Dr. Njengere has wide experience as an educationist and has been involved in many initiatives in education reforms at national, regional and global levels. He chaired some of the East African Community Technical Committees Sessions that culminated in the Framework for Harmonization of Education Systems and Curricula.
He has also been a resource person with the International Bureau of Education (UNESCO) on several assignments, including being a facilitator with the Government of Malaysia on curriculum-related issues.
Ms. Nancy Njeri Macharia is the Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers Service Commission.
She holds a Master of Education (Policy and Management) degree from Bristol University, UK and a Bachelor of Education degree in English/Literature from Kenyatta University. She has worked in the education sector for more than 28 years.
Born in 1963, Ms. Macharia has trained both locally and internationally in Corporate Governance, Public Procurement, Policy Formation, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Proactive Management and Business Excellence Models, among others.
She is a member of the Kenya Association of Public Administration Management (KAPAM) and Institute of Directors.
Prof. Charles Ochieng’ Ong’ondo is the Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
Prof. Ong’ondo is an Associate Professor in Teacher Education. He is a Commonwealth Academic Fellow and Scholar who holds a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Research Methodology (University Warwick, UK), a PhD in English Language Teacher Education (the University of Leeds, UK); an M.Phil. Degree in English Language Education (Moi University, a B.Ed. Degree in English and Literature (Moi University) and a Diploma in Education (Siriba Teachers College).
His academic interests are: Research Methodology, Teacher Education, English Language Pedagogy, Training of Trainers; Curriculum/Programme/Course Design and Evaluation; Academic Writing and Organizational Communication.
Before his appointment at KICD, Prof. Ong’ondo was a lecturer of English Language Teacher Education in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Media (CIEM) in the School of Education at Moi University where he worked for sixteen years, and rose through the ranks of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer to Associate Professor. Prior to joining the university as a lecturer, he taught English and Literature at secondary school.
Prof. is a member of the African Network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE), International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL), Language Association of Eastern Africa (LAEA) and founder member and official – Kenya Association of English Language Educators and Researchers (ASELER) and a member of Kenya Association of Educational Administration and Management (KAEAM).
Since June 21st, 2019, Prof. Ong’ondo has also been as a member of the Task force on Access, Relevance, Transition, Equity and Quality for Effective Curriculum Reforms Implementation in Kenya.
Ms. Rosemary C. Saina, the immediate former Chief Principal of Kenya High School, is an educationist, having joined the teaching profession in 1981 as a teacher at Moi Girls High School, Eldoret.
She climbed the professional ladder from Head of Department at Moi Girls School, Eldoret to Headmistress at Solian Girls High School, Baringo, where she served from 1990 to 1991.
In 1991, Mrs. Saina was transferred to Kenya High School to serve as the Deputy Principal, a position she held until 1999 when she was promoted at first as Principal, then promoted to Senior Principal and finally retiring as Chief Principal in 2015 after successfully managing the school for 16 years.
Ms. Saina is an alumni of Moi Girls High School, Eldoret (formerly Highlands) and St. Joseph Chepterit Girls, Nandi. She holds an Executive Masters of Education degree from Moi University and Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree from the University of Nairobi.
Born on 28th July 1955, she has extensive training in educational management and leadership skills. She has also attended various workshops and seminars which have enriched her career in education.
Mrs. Saina has served in other fields in various capacities and has travelled widely. She was the National Treasurer, Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association between 2014 and 2015 and she has also participated in various community forums, projects and services. Her exemplary performance earned her state recognition and she was awarded Head of State Commendation in 2009.
Okiyo Martin Osang’iri is an innovative and experienced professional, competent in leadership and management of both development and humanitarian portfolios, programmes and projects. He is an Educationist by profession with strengths in Training, Leadership and Communication. Martin has a strong bias in coordinating disability and gender awareness and advocacy initiatives within the context of education and development. He was the Executive Director of the African Union of the Blind (AFUB) until June 2017 and is currently the Lead Diversity and Inclusion Consultant and Technical Director with Actors for Inclusion Ltd. Before joining AFUB, Martin worked with the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI) as the Africa Region Coordinator of ICEVI’s Global Campaign for Education from 2011 - 2016. Prior to ICEVI, he previously served at Humanity and Inclusion (formerly Handicap International) - Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia and Kenya (TUSK) Programme from 2009. Martin also offers his leadership services on various boards in Kenya and internationally. He is the International Blind Sports Federation, IBSA Africa Chairman since 2013 and sits on the boards of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) and the Kenya Institute of the Blind (KIB) from 2016. Martin holds the following academic and professional qualifications: Bachelor of Education in Special Needs Education (and French language) from Kenyatta University, National Diploma in Human Resources Management and National Diploma in Project Management from the Kenya Institute of Management, Master of Science in Development Studies from Moi University and Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Nicosia, Cyprus. He is also a 2015 University of Pretoria Senior Management Institute (SMI) Fellow. Martin is currently pursuing his PhD in Special Needs Education at Kenyatta University. In his current role as a board member at KNEC, he is participating in creating transformative change in national examinations consequently restoring credibility in the education system in Kenya. For that achievement, he was in 2017 awarded by the Head of State the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW). Martin is visually impaired (partially blind) and this combined with his work experiences in disability have made him diversity sensitive.
Professor Ogur received his PhD in Engineering from University of Warwick in 2007. He is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK). Prior to joining the Technical University of Kenya in 2011, Prof. Ogur worked as a Research Fellow at the Warwick Manufacturing Group in the University of Warwick and as a Scientist/Engineer with Proctor and Gamble GmbH in Frankfurt, Germany.
Since 2014, Prof. Ogur worked as the Director, Centre for Engineering Innovation and Production (CEIP). The CEIP’s core purpose is to build capacity through Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) in the area of advanced manufacturing technologies such as Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine operation and maintenance, Reverse Engineering, Rapid Prototyping, Automation and Control. He has over 40 journal publications, a book on Polymer Processing with Supercritical Fluids and has filed six patents with the Kenya Industrial Property Institute. Prof. Ogur has received from the National Commission for Science Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) research awards in Biofuels, Solid Waste Management, Renewable Energy and Recycling of Materials.
Prof. Ogur has extensive academic and practical knowledge of TVET reform strategies, pilot implementation, design, development, assessment and implementation of different methodologies concerning CBET, Vocational Education and Training (VET), life-long learning and training of trainers. He has been providing advice, consultations and technical assistance in the education and VET systems with strong experience in the elaboration, piloting and evaluation of training curriculum for different target groups and formal and non-formal educational systems.
Throughout his career, Prof. Ogur has proven that he understands how to organize and inspire talented teams of people to achieve excellence in significant areas that advance the organization to higher levels through understanding the value in having diverse perspectives as part of a team and how to engage all in contributing to the successful fulfilment of vision and goals.
Colonel (Rt.) Leonard Owambo is a professional security and leadership expert with vast experience both locally and internationally having served as Kenya's Defense, Military, Naval and Air attaché to the United States of America (Washington DC), and Canada (Ottawa). He simultaneously served as regional director for Central and Southern Africa in the Washington Corps of Military Attaches.
He earned a US Presidential Award - the Legion of Merit, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services while serving as Kenya’s defense attaché to the United States in the period 2005-2007.
He has contributed greatly to prevention of conflict leading to a generally peaceful outcome of the Kenya General Elections 2013 specifically at the extremely volatile Coast Province region as the Coordinator and overall in charge of the Safe Coast Early Warning and Early Response (SCEWER) unit.
He holds an MA in Leadership from Faith Christian University and Schools, Maryland USA, BA in Organizational Leadership (Magna cum Laude) from Bellevue University, Nebraska, Diploma in International Studies from the University of Nairobi and a Certificate in Defense Resource Management from Naval Post- Graduate School, Monterey CAO. Additionally, he is a trained and certified Close Protection agent.
